Mohave Electric Cooperative CEO Tyler Carlson was elected by Arizona’s Co-ops to represent them on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Board of Directors, beginning next March. Tyler and Trico Electric Cooperative CEO Brian Heithoff ran for the Arizona NRECA board seat, being vacated by incumbent Curtis Nolan, a director at Sulphur Springs Electric Cooperative Board President.

“Curtis represented Arizona very well,” Tyler says. “His elections to officer positions, including being elected president of the NRECA Board, will be difficult for anyone to match. I look forward to representing Arizona on this important board.”

Curtis has served on NRECA’s Board for 21 years. He was the NRECA Board President from 2013 through 2015. Curtis began his service on the NRECA Board in 2002. When he steps down, he will have completed 1 of the longest terms on the board in NRECA’s history.

“My time representing Arizona on the NRECA Board has been a memorable experience,” Curtis says. “The Arizona electric cooperatives have been very generous by allowing me to serve on their behalf. Thank you so much! Tyler will be a great advocate for our Arizona electric cooperatives, and I wish him well.”

Each of NRECA’s Arizona members—which includes 6 distribution co-ops, a generation and transmission cooperative, and 8 other community-owned electric utilities—cast a vote for the director’s position. GCSECA’s Board of Directors facilitated the election at its Summer Meeting held in late July.

Tyler has been CEO at Mohave Electric Cooperative since 2010. He has served on the NRECA Regulatory Committee and on the NRECA Preference Customer Committee, which he chaired for 10 years. He serves on AEPCO’s Board of Directors and is a past president. He has been recognized in Arizona and nationally for his contributions to the electric industry numerous times during his career, which spans 45 years.

Tyler will be installed as Arizona’s newest NRECA Director at NRECA’s Annual Power Xchange Conference in March 2024.
