GCSECA hires federal government relations director

Jorge S. Canaca, Dir., Federal Government Relations & Regulatory

Grand Canyon State Electric Cooperative Association (GCSECA) has hired Jorge S. Canaca as the director for federal government relations and regulatory for the organization’s member utilities. His first day with the electric cooperative statewide association was July 11, 2016.

GCSECA CEO John Wallace said, “We’re pleased to welcome Jorge as part of our team to assist us in sharing with our federal elected and agency officials our member utilities concerns.

Wallace noted Canaca’s previous work as the legislative liaison for the Arizona Game and Fish Department for seven years and his experience as an environmental consultant and wildlife biologist for the department would be assets in his new position.

Canaca said, “I look forward to working with GCSECA. This is a great opportunity. I hope to learn about the cooperatives and assist them in their legislative efforts.”

Philip Bashaw, GCSECA’s director legislative affairs and grassroots advocacy, said, “I have known Jorge for a number of years and he has an excellent background and is very well thought of by the lobbyist working around the state legislature. I am excited to have him on our team. Jorge will be a great asset for GCSECA.”

Canaca graduated from Juniata College in Huntington, Pennsylvania with bachelor’s degrees in ecology and international studies.
